So we are PCSing to Hunter AAF in August. I would like to know a little more about it since this would be our first PCS . For example what are the housing on post like for an E2. How the day cares on post are like (I have a 2 year old) . Anything helps . TIA . =]

Tammy B says:Name and tell us about your installation - We are at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah GA. Love the area but the post is small and there isn't a lot to do on it. They do have things for small children but hardly anything for teenagers. It also seems no one takes pride of the post. We live in old housing which I am grateful we have a house but what we were told by housing and what we got are very different. Love being only 30 minutes from Tybee Island visiting areas of Savannah and there is a lot of shopping near by. On post there is of course a golf course bowling alley 2 children's centers a pool but you have to pay for the pool a tiny PX commissary and a very very small Burger King.

We recently moved to Vilseck, Germany last month. I don?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t know all the ins and outs just yet, but we left from Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, GA. BEAUTIFUL! Beaches, southern hospitality, plentiful shopping and yummy foodie experiences to be had.

i lived in some apartments called the links at georgetown off post.the rent was 950.00 a month for a 2 bed 2 bath with a loft.they have 1 to 3 beds total in the whole community.they are very nice,but you get what you pay for.the light bills in georgia are crazy in the summer because they try to profit off of the customer by making rates go up from march to sept each year.we paid 200.00 a month during those times even with saving on energy.any other time it was less than 100 a month.water was 30.00 a month.our bah was 1179.00 monthly since my husband was an e4.so we sometimes had to spend money out of the paycheck for the light bill,but it was worth it.i did not want to live on post because people are too nosy and we need a personal life seperate from the army at times.plus i did not liek the style and size of the homes on post.it was us and my then newborn baby when we lived there.i lived there from aug 2009 to aug 2010.the area people want to live at are south savannah,rincon,springfield,pooler,and the islands by south carolina if you are up for a far drive.any area that i did not list is horrible looking and crime is too high there.the city in general is mostly military,but some civilian too.it was too small for us.there are two malls and one or two of the bigger resturants.plenty of fast food places.2 hours from jacksonville ,florida.40 mins from fort stewart.2 hrs from charleston,sc.1 hr from beaufort and parris island the marine base.there is a navy base 1hr away on 95s highway.the size of haaf is small and the px and commissary too.the bigger one is at fort stewart.there are many places to travel too if you are stationed there,that is the good part.but if you are not use to smaller cities,and ones with not much to do if you do not drive further,then you will not like it.we are from saint louis,mo originally,and totally hated it there.but where we are now,we love it.

We came here from Ft. Hood and I like it here so much better. For us, we love the smaller post, the closeness to everything and the area in general. My main complaint is the schools especially for high school children.

I lived offpost and onpost at HAAF. At HAAF they offer both new and old housing. Most families with 2 or more children qualified for the new housing depending on the ages and gender. I lived in the new housing in New Gannam and liked it alot. The floors downstairs were made of Pergo or fake wood tiles. The kitchens were nice with nice white appliances and glass top stoves. Closet space was amazing both up and downstairs . The bedrooms were roomy and our yards were fenced in. My house also had 2.5 bathrooms.
